Start the week

This week started with my regular attendance at Drop In And Draw at The Barnoon Workshop followed by an informal gathering at the Moomaid coffee and ice cream shop on the wharf St Ives. The weather was a bit cold but out of the wind the sun was very warming and the company excellent. St Ives seemed to be a very happy place today.

The afternoon comprised of heading home and doing some admin and then onto drawing. I have embarked on another A2 size drawing which I might show as a work in progress at a later date. Also have been trying to get my head around the press release I am trying to write for the delivery of my big grid and dots drawing that will be delivered to the UYS Gallery, to be honest not got far with it yet so here a few more images of my work.

What I Will Draw On

Metallic pen on Bark

I have found freedom over the last few years to draw on many varied different things I just thought I would share a few of them. So above is a drawing I did on tree bark, I really enjoyed the fact it wasn't a flat surface.

Picture Frame Drawing

This one I did in the last half of last year for and exhibition/charity sale 'Keep Human' held at Porthmeor Studios. I have no idea where it ended up every piece had to have some 'word' content so I use the lyrics to a song I recorded quite a few years ago called Warm. www.soundcloud.com/bobbywotnot/warm

Vegetable Crate End

This was one of the lead drawings for my exhibition 'World Of Wotnot' which was at Cafe Art in St Ives in April 2013. The exhibition was in the top 5 exhibitions of the week in The Cornishman newspaper. It was drawn on the end of a vegetable crate.

My day today comprised of a small amount of drawing, putting a new shelf up at Barnoon Workshop www.barnoonworkshop.co.uk which is my place of work and does art and craft workshops and more in St Ives just behind Tate St Ives. It is a great place to work.

Another Varied Artists Day

Well here I am working on a drawing that has had some three or four sessions already on it. I generally work from home although not exclusively.

Today has been quite a varied day my friend Jordan has come round to help me get some better photos than I can attain with my cam phone, it has been very enjoyable and I am sure the results will be good. We also visited the UYS Gallery to take a few publicity shots for a forthcoming press release.

Here are a few pics from the day and hopefully will give some insight into what I have been developing over the years.

Here are a couple of views into my sketch books that Jordan did today more of Jordan's excellent photography can be found here, www.facebook.com/jordanlaurencejackson or flickr.com/jordanlaurencejackson

Sometimes I Draw on Other Things part 2

Here is a small array of 'sea pottery' and stones that I have drawn on, at a rough calculation I have done at least a thousand maybe two thousand by now. I have had some feedback from some people who have found them which is always nice but many I have no idea where they are now.
I have kept many in reserve for the future, which is called 'exhibition in a box', which I have ideas for becoming an exhibition outside of the box but more about that later.

Above is a large rock that I thought just needed to be drawn on, I do not feel in any way that I am going back to being a 'stoneage man' changing my environment or telling other people where the water is. I just enjoy the process and the results.

A couple or years or so back I went for a walk up to Man's Head with my the pre teenage son while he was down on holiday. I started drawing on some of the lose rocks and my son did a few of his own. We then arranged them as a little outdoor exhibition for passers-by to see, or not to see.

They are in this picture somewhere.

Sometimes I Draw on Other Things

Sometimes I don't draw on paper, I find it fun and a small challenge to draw on something more natural. This one was given to a friend at New Year but other smaller ones I leave around for people to find, although they are mainly drawn on 'sea pottery' all are signed. Many have been left in the St Ives area, although some have been left in Oxford and a few other places.

100 Square Feet

Here is a drawing I did quite a few years ago for an exhibition in London called 100 Square Feet.
Carne Griffiths had a great idea get a frame made that could fit 100 foot square pieces of art in and make the whole thing an installation. The opening night would be a big social with as many of the artist as possible and Dj's playing the suggestions of each artist. What a good night that was in Dalston.

Above is my contribution to that exhibition ink on primed mdf, so me being me did 100 hundred squares made of dots even the most minimal square has one dot in. Yes it it is the final one bottom right.
For reasons that allude me now I couldn't go and pick up my art work, i do hope someone still has it and the are most welcome.

Another Day As An Artist In St Ives

Here is the new drawing I promised yesterday finished at just after midnight last night. I am rather pleased with it and it very much fits in with my latest series all based on shapes that we are familiar with. All of them have been drawn on mount-board and a mixture of marker pen and smaller dots done with a uni pin fine liner many hours work but I think it was worth it. I am thinking of framing them when I have some project money to do so.

I have now started another which is based on two marker pen dotted circles one turquoise and the other in this green, should take me a few days. I am still trying to find time to get my next biggy started but did some website updating this morning for The Workshop then handed around some flyer/posters around town to promote March's program of activities at Barnoon.

I then went up to Barnoon and did the second coat on a wall to make our space look a bit sharper and the did a guitar lesson for one of our clients, then back home for food and to write this.

I will leave you with another drawing on mount-board.
