Exhibition In A Box - Abstract Drawing

Monday:

This morning I took the drawing group for the second week running and then we continued to get bits of the workshop ready for the Hand Held View exhibition that opens with the private view on Saturday evening, This afternoon Zoe did a watercolour class I went to find out what had happened to the funding for The Lantern Parade unfortunately I have found out nothing, if we don't find out soon it will be too late for us to deliver what we have been asked to do. I hope we get news soon.

Last evening I did start the fifth drawing in my new book work but I forgot to take a pic of that so will show what might be a nearly finished drawing in this blog tomorrow. I also forgot to transfer other drawings I did today in the drawing workshop this morning.

Wednesday:

Above is the drawing that I was engaged in last night as I got further into the drawing it seemed like I was getting into a Howard Hodgkin vibe, having seen a recent documentary that was re-shown after his death maybe I am a little influenced on this on. I do not think it is finished yet but up until now I have no idea what I will do next. I will find out later when I start drawing.

Today has been a quiet cancelled workshop kind of a day, however I did have a guitar lesson tonight, my regular student didn't make it tonight but a lady who is in town for a few days did and I think she will get back to playing now after a few years absence. During the course of the lesson she revealed she worked for The Whitechapel Gallery in London.

After the lesson I have returned home to write this blog and as it has been quite an uneventful day I will leave you with some drawings I did a while ago as part of various projects and they are in various books but give you a good flavour of some of the work I do.

I hope you liked them or find them interesting.

I am off to draw and relax and take it the fact that our government have triggered Article 50 and I now wonder what the hell will happen to our country. I am becoming less of a believer in politics after this last nine months. I hope it goes better than I suspect but I do think the whole idea of referendum and the narrow margin of the 'leave victory' and the way it was sold to the public was packed full of lives and it now looks like the whole of the UK could break up to. Is that what 'we' wanted, I doubt it. It all seems a bit dumb to me and I am waiting for a good explanation of why this is a good positive thing to do. I still feel European and British, will that change? Who knows I can only imagine what will unfold and it worries me.

New drawings as usual and a failed art drop. RIP Howard Hodgkin

Above is the drawing I am now sure is finished, it still might change when I go into the review stage of this book but for now it is fine.

Above is another drawing that I finished last night in my latest handmade book project, a simple statement.

I have carried on on the reverse page in a slightly different but riffing on the same theme. I have no idea what the next drawing in the book will be like but this circle theme seems to be sticking and might remain the theme throughout the whole book, we will see.

Today has been a quiet-ish day with slightly less to do, so pottering about was the order of the day and then we were taken out to lunch at The Queens Hotel by Zoe's mum, which was nice. As has been customary when out I quite often leave a little art drop. A few places around town seem to keep these little items such as The Rum & Crab Shack and there they have been part of the decor almost but as we were leaving the young lady who had served us said 'ooo you have left your stones' and gave us them back, oh well I though they will end up somewhere else, so my Mother in Law had the green one and the other two were left in Fore Street somewhere. After that we all went beach combing on Porthmeor and then returned home for a while and then I had to go off and do a guitar lesson and then back home for a yummy homemade curry, yum!

ON this day also one of my favourite artists has died, Sir Howard Hodgkin has died at the age of 84. He won the Turner prize in 1985 and was made a 'Sir' in 1992. When I first came across his work I thought he was an abstract painter he always denied he painted abstracts. I love his work and sense of colour whether it is abstract or not a true visionary. I have seen many of his shows and he always seemed to progress. Goodby dear fellow.

I will leave you with this: Tate director Sir Nicholas Serota said he was "one of the great artists and colourists of his generation". I couldn't agree more.
